Yellowstone River, Columbus The river has been running muddy through Columbus, so most anglers have been streamer fishing. Clark Fork River, Missoula The river is completely blown out.
The river is in winter fishing mode. The Black Caddis hatch is pretty much over, but we are seeing a decent trico hatch and spinner fall on calm mornings. North Fork Anglers, Cody. Until our government pulls its head out of its ass and the lack of a turnaround at the power plant this spring is not helpful. Lake trout are being caught from 10-30 feet out using crankbaits and spoons with trolling weights. Early mornings and late evenings are the best time for anglers. The bays on the west side of the lake continue to be the most consistent spots to fish. With a day or two of cooler weather we may get a small window of clearer water to fish before runoff. The crappie bite has been slow. The hot spots are the Outhouse, Shannon, Yacht Basin and any bays on the north end. I have seen snow on the 11th. We advise fishing this section after spring runoff occurs, or if another cold front slows snow melt.
Beadhead nymphs stripped or slow trolled behind a kickboat or float tube also work well. The water temperature is at 39 degrees. But wait!

If a cold front rolls through we could potentially see a window to fish. Tributary creeks opened on 5/21 and can be a great bet for dodging runoff and finding fish in clearer water. Still some great opportunities for trout and perch. We still have a lot more snow up in the high country, we just need some warmer weather to get it moving. Below Highway 37 the river is open to all angling. It can, and will happen. Find nearby businesses, restaurants and hotels.
The place for all fishing reports. Walleye and perch are being caught mid reservoir between Hole in the Wall to Confederate and Duck Creek in 35-45 feet of water while using jigging spoons, Jiggin' Raps or Tungston Wax tails.
